Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!
It’s been a dramatic four weeks in Performing Arts with each class working towards their final performance or presentation for the term.
Foundation
Foundation students have been continuing to develop their expressive skills (body movements, hand gestures, facial expressions and voice) through various dramatic situations. They also learnt about ‘Transformation of Object’ which is when you use your expressive skills to transform an object into something else. They have also reflected on the term in their Arts Journals, through writing and drawing.
Years One and Two
Year One and Two students have completed their list of starting points to devise drama from. During Week Five, they used a picture as a starting point and in Week Six it was an Aboriginal story called ‘Tiddalik’. ‘Tiddalik’ is the story about a greedy frog who drank all the water in the world. They had to create four expressive freeze frames to summarise the story (please see photos below). In Week Seven, they used the lyrics of the Ghostbusters song as a starting point for their movement story, which they performed this week.
Year Three and Four
Year Three and Four students have been working really hard at developing and improving their Non-naturalistic Drama performances. During Week Six, they performed their pieces and during Week Seven, they were given the opportunity to reflect on their ‘work in progress’ performances and note down the improvements they can apply to their final performance, which is this week!
Year Five
Year Five students finally presented their well-planned Improvised Drama Games to a younger audience! All of Year One had the opportunity to be their audience and participate in the drama games that the Year Fives designed. It was a great opportunity for both year groups to connect, be creative together and learn from each other.
Year Six
Year Six students have started their ‘Science in Performing Arts’ lesson series in which they explore how Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Earth Science topics can be expressed and explained through Dance, Drama and Music. They had a lot of fun expressing how materials can change in reversible and irreversible chemical reactions, through speech and movement (please see photos below.) They have also explored the physics of dance and wrote a rap about a science topic.
We can’t wait to see what they come up with for their Exhibition Arts pieces!
It’s been such a creative and inspiring Drama term. Now, we are looking forward to next term, when students will be learning all about dance and music.
