This term, Year 11 Chemistry students have been busy developing their practical skills through a range of hands-on activities. They created and tested red cabbage indicators to explore pH, built simple galvanic cells to see chemical energy converted into electricity, and prepared standard solutions for acid–base titrations to practice accuracy and precision in analysis.
These engaging investigations are helping students strengthen their laboratory techniques while deepening their understanding of chemistry in action

At the start of term 3, Year 12 Chemistry students participated in a major laboratory program that combined classroom learning with practical investigations at the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC). Over three sessions, they used advanced analytical techniques—FTIR, GCMS and HPLC—to identify functional groups in chemicals, investigate biodiesel contamination in aviation fuel, and measure the ASA content in aspirin tablets, gaining valuable hands-on experience with real-world scientific applications.

Year 10 Physics students have been exploring Newton’s Laws of Motion through a series of engaging, hands-on activities. From investigating the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces to experimenting with motion, acceleration, and inertia, students applied the laws to real-world scenarios and classroom challenges. These practical investigations not only deepened their understanding of core physics concepts but also highlighted the relevance of Newton’s principles in explaining everyday phenomena.
