Principal's Report

Mr Tristan Lanarus

Report from Westall

Dear Westall Secondary College Community,

Another busy term draws to a close. What a happy, busy, fun, growing, successful, productive, and resourceful school we have!!! Our school is our people. Students, staff, parents, carers, and broader community. We are blessed with the most beautiful people that are Westall Secondary College. We have had another successful term driven by student will, engagement and wanting to be at school each day. Staff skill in teaching and learning programs, positive relationships, and the emotional intelligence to support and challenge every student. Caring, loving, and inspiring parents and community that support us all the way.

Some quick updates:

2026 timetable – This is driven by student selections via the recent course counselling process. Huge thanks to our Assistant Principal team who drove this process. The numbers of each class at each year level are determined through this process which in turn determines the timetable and required staff to run the timetable. Draft 2026 timetables for students and staff will be communicated asap, early Term 4. These classes will commence late November/ early December this year. The period we call Head Start.

Student enrolment update – numbers as of 10 September 2025

Yr 7 – 88

Yr 8 – 98

Yr 9 – 102

Yr 10 – 128

Yr 11 – 124

Yr 12 – 120

WELC – 60

Total - 720

Student Attitudes to school Data – Positive trends with student satisfaction, happiness and connection improving each year since the COVID period when these numbers understandably dropped across the State. Very pleasing that since COVID we have got stronger each year and students feeling more positive each year. Having said that, still work to be done and we will keep striving to lift these numbers higher each year. Our Sub School model, year level wellbeing programs and workshops, brain care curriculum, I Create program every Wednesday, range of extracurricular activities, peer and teacher relationships and engaging and challenging curriculum, all contribute to this data.

Facilities – New cricket nets will commence installation in the September school holidays. The toilets, and science lab proposals are currently sitting with our architects. The VSBA (Victorian School Building Authority) have just approved and will fund major upgrade works – roofs, painting, gutters, fascia – big maintenance and upgrade work into 2026.

Year 12 Graduates – School Formal Friday night 19 September, Hotel Chadstone. Practice exams scheduled in September holidays. We have 2 and a half weeks of revision classes in Term 4 prior to SWOTVAC week and exam period commencing Tuesday 28 October English/EAL through to Wednesday 19 November.

We wish our Year 12 graduating students every success.
