From The Team
Wow! What an exciting start to the term we’ve had! It feels as though this year has just flown by and we still have some many exciting things coming up to look forward to.
Our ⅚’s have been busier than ever with Division Sports, Whole School ScienceWorks Excursion, and the Metro Trains Incursion.
We have kicked off our Informative writing unit with students being asked to plan, draft, edit and publish a biography on a person of interest. Their work so far has been fantastic with students enthralled in their work, writing about the inspiring aspects of an individual's life. They have been publishing their reports on Canva and their technology skills have really been shining bright on this project.
The Shark Tank Expo preparation is underway and the kids have been very busy working on their prototypes. We have been watching some presentations from the Shark Tank show and looking at how they present their ideas, trying to adapt this into our own pitches. We’re also planning our formal attire for the day so that we can look ready for business! On the day, we are raising money towards our Big Day Out so we are asking for gold coin donations to support this.
Our work on Graduation continues, and thank you for the Parent Committee for the awesome progress they’ve made already. They are asking for a bag or two of lollies for donation to be used at the disco lolly bar. If you could send these to school with your child to their classroom teacher, that would be much appreciated.

What We Are Learning
What We Are Learning In Specialist Classes In Term 4
Cultural Studies
This term in Cultural Studies, students explored the vibrant culture of India — learning about the Taj Mahal and creating their own beautiful mandala artworks inspired by traditional designs. As we move towards the end of term, students will be learning about and celebrating festivals and traditions from around the world.
Performing Arts
Students in Years 5 and 6 will continue to refine their ensemble and performance skills by learning to play The Scientist by Coldplay and Count on Me by Bruno Mars. They will rehearse bass and melody parts on classroom instruments, and develop fluency with ukulele chords including C, F, A minor, G, E minor and D7. Students will also extend their aural training to include identifying both ascending and descending intervals. Throughout the term, they will be preparing their performance item for the Christmas Concert.
Physical Education
In Physical Education this term, students will participate in a cricket program run by Sporting Schools. They will develop fundamental skills like hitting, throwing, catching and running, combined with body control and locomotive skills. They will also participate in our House Sports morning. As we head into the warmer months, students are reminded to bring hats and water bottles to PE lessons.
Science
This term in Science we will focus on the area of Earth and Space. We will investigate elements of the universe such as planets, exoplanets, galaxies, nebulae and black holes. We will learn about the environment in space and what astronauts need to survive. As part of this unit we will visit the Planetarium at Scienceworks.
Visual Arts
This term, the focus will be threads and textiles. Students will be creating either a dry-felted cushion (Year 5) or a graduation bear (Year 6). Year 5 students will be learning how to dry-felt wool tops, sew buttons and sequins, and join material using blanket stitch. Students in Year 6 will construct a calico bear and make clothes for their bear using clothes patterns and running stitch.

Division Cricket
On Friday the 17th of October, the girls division cricketers had a chance to compete in the next level of cricket. To start the day, everyone arrived early at school and changed into sports shirts. Once the bell had gone we went with our drivers to the sporting oval. When we arrived we were instructed to meet in the middle of the oval to see where we would be playing. Our first game (v St Simon’s) was held at 10am which we lost. The second game was at 11am against Waverley Christian College. It was a challenge against our skill level as they were a much bigger school than us. At 1pm we played our 3rd game against Bayswater West. This game had a score of 104 and 109. This was the first game and last game we won. In our final game at 2pm, we played against Karoo for 5th place. We dominated most of the game, and Karoo required 2 off the final ball to win. Unfortunately it went for 4 and we lost a nail biter! To finish off the day we waited for our drivers to arrive and in the end we placed 6th out of 8 girls teams. What a great effort!

Division Tennis
Tennis was so much fun! We got to play against many different schools. The rounds went for 30min then 5,6,7,8 would swap with 1,2,3,4 to have a break, then when they were both done in the singles we went on to doubles. The finals were the same, but the games were more challenging. To get to the finals we had to play the game of our lives to win. The boys team got first place winning a flag!
We got through to division! The game was played on Friday, 17th October and we had to go in some of the teacher's and parents cars. We arrived around 9:20 and the games started at 10:00 so there was plenty of time to warm up.
The first two games were singles and the third was doubles. There were still finals in division and as last time it was stressful! The finals were getting closer and before we knew it was finals already! In the final doubles game, we played against the same opponents as the previous round, however on this occasion we were unlucky and lost!
The day was not just about winning the games, it was about having fun and missing some work, and we achieved that!

Division Volleyball
On Tuesday the 21st of October, two teams from 5/6 went to Division Volleyball. Parents and teachers very kindly volunteered to drive us to Maroondah Nets for our games. All of the games were played then the final games were announced. Both Scoresby teams were competing for 7th place. The boys team had a close game but lost at the last point, the girls turned around the day of losses winning one final game. We all had so much fun on the last day of sport for this year.
