Welcome Back to Term 4!
It has been wonderful to return to school this term and settle into our newly updated classrooms! Not only do they look amazing, but according to the students, the new carpet is much nicer to sit on too. It has been a pleasure to see how resilient everyone was during the changes and how eager our students were to lend a hand with all the moving.
In Integrated Studies, students are working towards running their very own Christmas Market. In small groups, they are designing and producing a product to sell. Throughout the term, they will explore ideas, consider cost effectiveness, plan production, and set up their stalls for market day. We appreciate your support in helping students gather any materials they may need to create their products.
This term we have already enjoyed a Scoresby Superstars session focused on team building. Students explored why teamwork is important, what it looks like in action, and how it feels to work successfully with others - a valuable life skill they will continue to build upon. They also had great fun participating in a range of team-building games and challenges, working together to solve problems, communicate clearly, and encourage one another.
We have also had an exciting whole-school excursion to Scienceworks, where we were amazed by the stars in the Planetarium and explored the many hands-on exhibits, including SportsWorks. The 3/4 students collected data about their sporting abilities and bodies, which they will use in our upcoming Maths unit on data and graphing. Most importantly, everyone had a fantastic time learning and having fun together!
It has been so lovely to see the students back at school this term, reconnecting with their friends, showing enthusiasm for learning, and engaging so positively in classroom activities. We are proud of how they have settled back into routines and are looking forward to an exciting and productive Term 4 together.
Warm regards,
- Caroline Foenander, Larissa Holdsworth, Karen Coster and Samantha Edwards
What We Are Learning
What We Are Learning in Specialist Classes in Term 4
Cultural Studies
This term in Cultural Studies, students explored the vibrant culture of India — learning about the Taj Mahal and creating their own beautiful mandala artworks inspired by traditional designs. As we move towards the end of term, students will be learning about and celebrating festivals and traditions from around the world.
Performing Arts
This term, students will further develop their ukulele skills by learning to play Riptide using the chords C, A minor, G and F, and will also be introduced to the E minor chord. They will continue to work on tuning, naming strings and forming chord shapes, and explore simple chord progressions in popular music. Students will also begin creating and rehearsing their Christmas Concert performance piece.
Physical Education
In Physical Education this term, students will participate in a cricket program run by Sporting Schools. They will develop fundamental skills like hitting, throwing, catching and running, combined with body control and locomotive skills. They will also participate in our House Sports morning and Bike Ed during their Level Sport sessions. As we head into the warmer months, students are reminded to bring hats and water bottles to PE lessons.
Science
This term in Science we will focus on the area of Earth and Space. We will learn about the planets in our Solar System, the order they are in, and how their distance from the sun effects their orbit. We will also investigate the rocks and minerals that make up the Earth. As part of this unit we will visit the Planetarium at Scienceworks.
Visual Arts
This term, students will create art inspired by African masks and textiles. They will explore the significant cultural, religious and social roles of traditional masks before creating a paper cut-out mask using the concepts of symmetry, positive and negative space. Students will also design a cardboard mask adding 3D features such as a nose, mouth, eyebrows etc. They will view, discuss and explore African patterns and textiles in a drawn art piece. At the end of the term students will use clay to design a Christmas snowman.
