Upcoming Important Dates
From The Team
Hello to our wonderful Year 1/2 families!
Welcome back to Term 4! The Year 1/2 students have hit the ground running with lots of fun, learning and excitement already happening in our classrooms.
It was wonderful to hear about how the students spent their holidays. The Year 1/2 team had a fabulous break, spending time relaxing with family and friends, pottering in the garden and growing seedlings to show the students in preparation for our very own Garden Market!
This term, students have been busy getting their hands dirty in the garden. We have been learning all about planting, weeding and caring for plants. We are very excited for our upcoming Garden Market, where students will have the opportunity to share what they’ve grown and learned. Keep an eye out for more information and important dates coming soon!
We are still collecting pots and cans to help with our special project. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
We hope you all have a fabulous fortnight!

What We Are Learning
What We Are Learning In Specialist Classes In Term 4
Cultural Studies
This term in Cultural Studies, students explored the vibrant culture of India — learning about the Taj Mahal and creating their own beautiful mandala artworks inspired by traditional designs. As we move towards the end of term, students will be learning about and celebrating festivals and traditions from around the world.
Performing Arts
Students in Years 1 and 2 will build their ensemble and instrumental skills by rehearsing melodies on tuned instruments and responding to rhythmic patterns in 4/4 time. They will be introduced to playing A minor, F major and C major chords on the ukulele, working towards changing between chords with fluency. Singing, performing the major scale, and collaborative music-making will continue to be key focuses. Students will also begin rehearsing their Christmas Concert performance.
Physical Education
In Physical Education this term, students will participate in a cricket program run by Sporting Schools. They will develop fundamental skills like hitting, throwing, catching and running, combined with body control and locomotive skills. They will also participate in our House Sports morning. As we head into the warmer months, students are reminded to bring hats and water bottles to PE lessons.
Science
This term in Science we will focus on the area of Earth and Space. We will learn about the planets in our Solar System, the order they are in, and how they all orbit the sun on their own path. We will explore the relationship between the Earth, moon and sun, and how the rotation of the Earth on its axis causes night and day. We will learn about the different phases of the moon. As part of this unit we will visit the Planetarium at Scienceworks.
Visual Arts
Students will begin Term 4 learning to paint circles for a poppy field art piece. They will use foamboard as a starting point for a sculpture of a bird, exploring the concepts of stability, pattern, colour and shape, and will design an ocean relief collage using cut and folded paper circles. Students will then further develop their modelling skills using Magiclay and air-dry clay.
Reminders
Pots: We are seeking any spare pots or tins you may have! We would love to recycle them for our special Garden Market project.
High Frequency Words book & Yellow Reading Log: Continue to help your child to practise their high frequency words in their new book. Record nightly reading in their reading log.
Communication folders: Please remember to bring these to and from school each day.
Try This...
Fruity Fun at Woolies!
Last term, the Year 1/2 students enjoyed a fun local walk to Scoresby Woolworths, where each child chose and bought a piece of fruit. It was a wonderful way to practise using money in a real-life setting and make healthy choices!
Excursion to Myuna Farm!
We had such a wonderful day at Myuna Farm, filled with fun and furry friends! The F-2 students went on a bumpy tractor ride, helped to milk the goats, and loved patting and feeding many of the animals around the farm.
In the garden
This term, our budding gardeners have been busy! Students wrote persuasive letters to local garden centres asking for donations, planted new seedlings, and have been caring for our growing veggies in the school garden. Later in the term, we’ll be organising a very special Garden Market, which we can’t wait to share more about soon!
