From The Team

It has been wonderful to see all the students back at school! I have loved hearing their holiday stories and seeing their smiles as they settle back into our classroom routines. Everyone has returned refreshed and ready to learn, and it’s great to see their enthusiasm and energy in the classroom.

I am very proud of how the students have just about learnt all their codes and are more consistently able to transfer this understanding into their writing. It’s exciting to see them using their knowledge so confidently and creatively.

It’s going to be a very busy term filled with fun learning experiences, including exploring toys and forces in science and how to share things equally in Maths. The students have really enjoyed these hands-on activities so far and have already shown great curiosity and teamwork.

What We Are Learning in Specialist Classes              in Term 4

Cultural Studies

This term in Cultural Studies, students explored the vibrant culture of India — learning about the Taj Mahal and creating their own beautiful mandala artworks inspired by traditional designs. As we move towards the end of term, students will be learning about and celebrating festivals and traditions from around the world.

Performing Arts

In Performing Arts this term, Foundation students will be developing their musical skills through singing, playing and listening to music. They will rehearse melodic patterns on the xylophone, including Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and create and respond to rhythmic patterns using hand drums and body percussion. They will also begin preparing a performance item for our Christmas Concert.

Physical Education

In Physical Education this term, students will participate in a cricket program run by Sporting Schools. They will develop fundamental skills like hitting, throwing, catching and running, combined with body control and locomotive skills. They will also participate in our House Sports morning. As we head into the warmer months, students are reminded to bring hats and water bottles to PE lessons.

Visual Arts

This term, students will explore threads and textiles whilst continuing to develop their fine-motor skills. They will practise paper weaving and learn to tie a simple hitch knot to make tassels. Students will decorate a wooden figure using a stencil to make pyjamas, before adding facial features and hair, and will also design and construct a bed using recycled materials. They will practise winding threads and learn about the colours of the rainbow. In December, students will create Christmas ornaments.

Reminders

  • High Frequency Words book & Yellow Reading Log: Continue to help your child to practise their high frequency words in their new book. Record nightly reading in their reading log.
