Message from the Assistant Principals

This Fortnight at Grayling

The past two weeks have been filled with many special events that brought our community together in learning, celebration, and connection.

R U OK? Day and Bullying No Way! at Grayling Primary School

On Thursday, September 11th, Grayling Primary School recognised R U OK? Day—a national day of action that encourages Australians to start meaningful conversations with those who may be struggling. It’s a powerful reminder that a simple conversation can change a life.

This year’s theme, “Ask R U OK? Any Day,” highlighted the importance of checking in with others, not just on one day of the year, but whenever we notice someone might need support.

As part of the day’s learning, students explored the importance of kindness, empathy, and looking out for one another. They also learnt the four simple steps to start a conversation:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen with an open mind.
  3. Encourage action by suggesting ways to get help if needed.
  4. Check in regularly, because ongoing support makes a real difference.

Alongside R U OK? Grayling also recognised Bullying No Way! a national initiative that promotes safe and respectful learning environments for all students. Students reflected on what bullying is, why it’s never OK, and how each of us has a role to play in standing up for others. The shared message across both events was clear: kindness and respect matter every day.

By building these skills early, our students are developing lifelong habits of care, compassion, and courage to speak up for themselves and others.

A big thank you to Mr Van Harten and Mr Dodgson for organising such meaningful learning experiences for our school community.

Book Week

We had a fantastic time celebrating Book Week! The school was buzzing with excitement as students and staff came dressed in some truly amazing costumes, showcasing their favourite book characters and a shared love of reading.

Our student leaders did a wonderful job helping to organise the day with Mr Dodgson and reading short stories aloud during the parade, which was personalised to our school. Classrooms were filled with fun activities and a strong sense of joy as we celebrated the magic of books together.

To finish the day, students were treated to a staged performance of Sleeping Beauty organised by Mrs Schache. This adapted version of the classic tale was both engaging and entertaining, and it was a delight to see all the students so involved and captivated by the show.

Book Week was a special reminder of the joy that reading brings.

Father’s Day at Grayling

Last week we celebrated Father’s Day with a very special breakfast before school. It was wonderful to see so many dads, grandfathers, and other important people in our students’ lives join us for the morning.

The smiles, conversations, and shared time together made it a truly memorable event. At Grayling, we value our strong community connections, and it’s always a joy to host occasions that bring families, staff, and students together.

Students also had the opportunity to visit the Father’s Day Stall, where they carefully chose gifts for their loved ones. The stall not only added to the excitement of the week but also gave students the chance to practise real-life skills such as handling money, making thoughtful choices, and showing kindness through gift-giving.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to make the morning such a success, and to our parent helpers and Mrs Ellingworth for organising this special event. We loved celebrating with you!

With the upcoming school holidays starting this Friday, we wish all families a wonderful, fun-filled, and safe break.

Warm regards,
