Fortnight Focus: Celebracione y colores
(Celebrations & Colors)
¡Hola familias!
We've had another busy and exciting fortnight in Spanish class! Here's what we've been up to:
La Tomatina: A Spanish Celebration
Students dived into the world of Spanish festivals by learning all about La Tomatina, the famous tomato-throwing festival held in Buñol, Spain.
Students explored the history and traditions of the event. They shared their critical opinions on large scale celebrations, developing their thinking and communication skills.
To bring the festival to life, they created vibrant art projects inspired by La Tomatina. It was a fun and expressive way to deepen our Spanish cultural understanding.
Exploring Spanish Colors
This fortnight also focused on learning and reinforcing colors in Spanish. Children were introduced to color names through songs, games and interactive activities (F-Grade 2).
They used their creativity to make tangrams and tessellations with colorful paper cut-outs. This was a hands-on, visual way to practice Spanish color vocabulary (Grade 3-6). It’s been a colorful and festive two weeks of learning!
Mi lista de vocabulario en español
(My Vocabulary list in Spanish)
Students (Grade 3 -6) created my vocabulary list in Spanish, including most of the words we have learned since the start of the term. By regularly reviewing this list, we can improve our fluency, pronunciation and confidence in using the Spanish language. It’s a simple but powerful way to take responsibility for our own learning and track our progress over time.
Storytime en Español – A Love for Reading!
Spanish Mini Library is a big hit among students. This fortnight, students have also been enjoying the wonderful world of Spanish books!
Our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes have been especially excited as I’ve been reading engaging and colorful storybooks in Spanish aloud during our lessons. These stories spark curiosity, build vocabulary and help young learners become more familiar with the rhythm and sound of the Spanish language.
¡Hasta pronto! (see you soon)
