From the Classroom

University of Melbourne Science

This term, our students have continued their Science partnership with the University of Melbourne, focusing on Physics. In class, they built electrical circuits to power a “robo cup” and create light. During an exciting visit to the Physics department on campus, students had the opportunity to design and build their own loudspeakers using paper, wire and a coat hanger! It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought science to life and inspired our young physicists.

Bangarra

We were honoured to welcome the Bangarra Dance Theatre to our school. Bangarra are professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers who draw on over 65,000 years of culture to create powerful works of theatre through dance, music, poetry, and design.

During their visit, the dancers shared some moves from their productions and explained how their performances are inspired by stories passed down from Elders and communities. It was a unique and inspiring opportunity for our students to connect with culture, creativity, and storytelling through dance. The girls were also fortunate to attend a live Bangarra Dance Theatre performance at the Playhouse Theatre, joined by visiting students from Elcho Island.

Bullen Bullen Cultural Day: Year 7 and 8 were lucky enough to spend the day in the Dandenong Ranges with Uncle Chris, a proud Yorta Yorta and Boonwurrung man. He taught us about local bush tucker, cultural games and we had the chance to make fire the traditional way using wood and friction.
