Year 3 Literacy

Year 3 Literacy
This term we have been learning Literacy differently at BEPS. Students in Year 3 have enjoyed Literacy mornings and have covered a lot of content so far.
Here is a sample of what our Literacy mornings look like;
Daily Review
Here we consolidate our learning; checking in and practising concepts we have already learnt.
Sound Waves
Here we learn spelling rules, the graphemes that make up a sound, segment the words into all the sounds and explore grammar and punctuation.
Reading Fluency
In Reading Fluency we read to a partner and get feedback on our fluency.
“My partner told me that I was reading a bit slow so I practised ‘the pace of my reading’ to read faster.” Vennela
“My partner told me that I was reading too fast and they didn’t understand every word I said. I have to read a little slower”. Nolan
Novel Studies
“We are reading ‘The One and Only Ivan’. It is about Ivan, a gorilla who is very lonely because he lives in the Big Top Mall which is like a circus. He is friends with Stella the Elephant and Bob the stray dog. But we are now finding out about a baby elephant joining them called Ruby.” Andrea
Sentence -Level Writing
We are learning the different purposes of conjunctions such as ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’, and using them to create complex sentences.
Text - Level Writing
We are now using our understanding of how animals feel being in a circus, as well as our understanding of complex sentences, to start creating a persuasive piece of writing.
We have been very excited about the students' progress so far.
