A VISIT TO REMEMBER: ANDY GRIFFITHS AT SOUTH MELBOURNE PARK PRIMARY!
One wet and deary morning last week, our school was filled with laughter and excitement as renowned author Andy Griffiths visited South Melbourne Park Primary for a fun and engaging author session with our students. The room buzzed with energy as Andy shared the stories behind his beloved Treehouse series and offered a sneak peek into his new adventures in the Adventures Unlimited series.
From the moment Andy stepped into the room, it was clear this would be no ordinary author visit. Students were thrilled to hear about the exciting process of creating the wacky, yet somehow plausible worlds of the 13-Storey Treehouse books. Andy told the students about his creative partnership with illustrator Terry Denton, revealing how the two of them worked together to come up with the wildest ideas possible, always with plenty of laughter and fun. One of the highlights was when Andy explained how he went on a quest to find the perfect tree for the 13th storey of the treehouse. His story was a blend of adventure and humour that kept the students hanging on every word.
The session took an exciting turn when Andy spoke about his new series, Adventures Unlimited, which has already captured the imaginations of his readers. He shared how he found inspiration for this new world, telling the students about the incredible places and characters he’s created for the series, and how important it is to let your imagination run wild.
Throughout the session, the students didn’t hold back when it came to asking questions. They were curious about everything—from Andy's writing process to his favourite characters, and even what it’s like to be a co-author with Terry. The room was alive with enthusiasm as the students eagerly listened to Andy’s answers and learned valuable tips about creative writing, storytelling, and the magic of reading.
The visit ended with a wonderful, spontaneous moment of unity. As Andy wrapped up, the
students broke into an impromptu chant: "Andy, Andy, Andy!" Their energy and appreciation for the author’s visit were palpable. As if that wasn’t enough, a few adventurous students even requested that Andy be made co-principal of the school alongside Ms. Arnold—something we’re sure would make for a very interesting day of school leadership!
It was a truly memorable visit, and we’re grateful to Andy Griffiths for bringing so much joy, inspiration, and creativity to our school. We can’t wait to dive into his new books and continue exploring the endless possibilities of imagination he encourages in all of us.
Thank you, Andy, for an unforgettable day!
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Pandolfini family for organising such as inspirational and special event for our students.
