LIVE4LIFE

RAISING AWARENESS

Live4Life is a mental health program raising awareness and is across Bass Coast and South Gippsland schools.

Our year 9 students (Mia, Marley, Janae, Gemma and Amelia) are the Live4Life Crew who are mental health awareness representatives. They have been working on this throughout the year, with a focus on making a difference in the school and community regarding youth mental health.

They created a mental health theme for the year, and it is “Check In, Reach Out” – this means checking in with your friends but also reaching out if you need to.

Our year 8 students completed 3 mental health first aid sessions in term 3. Wednesday 13th was about not only celebrating this, but as a refresher around what was presented and learnt in  these sessions.

The action plan steps that are focused on are…

Look – for warning signs

Ask – how they are

Listen - up

Help - them connect with an adult

Your friendship – is important

Wednesday 13th was about raising awareness about mental health, and reducing stereotypes, which means removing negative thoughts, judgements and opinions away from mental health. The afternoon was a celebration of what the year 8’s have achieved as part of their Mental Health First Aid Training.

The activities that the year 9’s organised were food, a photo booth with face painting and glitter hairspray, positive chalk messages for everyone to write and draw, giant games and a spinning wheel with questions and prizes and a table set up for bracelet making and mindfulness colouring.

Congratulations to Mia, Marley, Janae, Gemma and Amelia for their great work. It has been a pleasure watching them grow in confidence and organise something for our year 8 students.
