Outdoor Ed Bouldering

On Monday the 11th of November, the Year 9/10 Outdoor Ed students travelled to Ballarat to participate in some indoor rock climbing at Friction Bouldering.

When we arrived, we put on special bouldering shoes, and were able to get into some free climbing time, to learn by experience. The time flew as we challenged ourselves on a range of different courses and difficulties. In no time the blisters and cuts started to appear, despite the vast amounts of chalk we used on our hands.

After a break for a Remembrance Day minute's silence, we were back into climbing, participating in a group challenge to see how many climbs we could complete in groups of 3. We climbed for hours, only stopping for food and water breaks.

Our excursion helped practically implement our learning of technological advancements in the outdoors, as we got to experience new technologies that assist people to get out and experience the outdoors through rock climbing. This included a new climbing wall that changed angles using hydraulics, and even had light up holds that created paths to follow.

We’d like to thank Miss Hughes and Mr Severino for giving us the opportunity to experience such a fun way of engaging with the outdoors, and for the Slushies on the way home!
