BIG little Moments

As the 2025 Preps and their families have begun their transition into DCC, it has got me thinking about the “big little moments” in their lives. Each Thursday transition session was filled with an undeniable energy. Our new little learners brought their curiosity and excitement, along with a whole mixture of other emotions, as they prepared to commence a journey of discovery, learning, and growth. For parents, too, this stage marked the beginning of a whole new chapter, filled with anticipation and joy, as they watched their children take those first steps into the next pages of their story.
The underlying beauty of this transition is the expansion of our unique and supportive community. Parents, like their children, are laying the groundwork for friendships and networks that will grow alongside their children throughout the next 13 years.
Throughout Term 4, our Wellbeing focus has been on the concept of “Your Mindset Matters.” In Romans 12:2, we are reminded of the power of transformation:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
This verse captures our heart’s desire for each of our students in the various “big little moments” that Primary school affords them. Together, we encourage them to be learners, thinkers, and faithful individuals who are open to God’s transformative work in their lives.
This transformation can happen in the small, yet pivotal moments on a daily basis at school. One teacher recently shared a story about a student who experienced a challenging friendship bump.
During a recess game, he became very upset about losing. When the teacher asked, “What are you treasuring more right now - Jesus or winning?” The student immediately recognised, "treasuring winning more". The teacher pointed out how Jesus is the one who transforms us when things aren’t quite how they should be. By lunchtime, he was able to rejoin the game with a fresh perspective and even wrote notes of restoration to his friends. Big little moments!
Primary school is filled with countless transformational moments like these. As children develop in confidence, character, and faith, they are shaped not only by their families but also by the experiences, relationships, and learnings they encounter at school.
Teachers have the privilege of partnering with parents in speaking into students’ lives during these formative years, planting seeds of encouragement and wisdom. These moments, though they may seem small, often have a lasting impact, shaping who our children will become.
As we conclude another amazing year and anticipate the next one to come, we look forward to creating many more “big little moments” together.
