Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

I hope you all had the opportunity to relax and recharge over the long weekend. It is certainly a well timed break, to take a breath before the rush of Christmas arrives.

Our staff had a Professional Development Day on Friday where we unpacked the new English curriculum that will be implemented in 2025 and delved into the new Maths resources produced by Ochre to enhance the explicit instruction of teaching Maths.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is on Monday 11/11/24. We are selling poppies, pens and wrist bands. They range in price from $2 - $10. Please see the children before or after school to purchase a poppy to commemorate those who have made the supreme sacrifice.

LitStem at Kilbreda

On Wednesday Miss Dirckze and a group of Year 4 students went to Kilbreda for another lesson in the science lab and an unexpected turn of events occurred. The elephant toothpaste experiment went a little crazy and may have hit the roof! The children were very excited and the Science teacher Ms Brooks said that had never happened before!

Foundation 2025 Transition 2

Our Foundation 2025 students had their second school experience this morning. They all came in very excited and went off to the Foundation room ready for hard school work.

They are a very settled group and happily chat and help each other.

Classes for 2025

In the next week the children will nominate 5 friends who they work well with in class. The children get to chose these friends from their year level. This is done using a computer program that has the children’s photos next to their names. Children will get at least 1 friend from their list in their class in 2025.

Colour Run

We are so excited - tomorrow is our Colour Run. We ask that all children come to school in either a White T-Shirt (if you want to be coloured) or a black T-Shirt (if you DO NOT want to be coloured) and either old shorts, pants or active wear, and runners.  No open toed shoes please. No school uniform tomorrow - just your colour run clothes!

We are also inviting everyone to come in crazy hair or to wear a crazy headband!

Our Colour Run will commence at 2:10pm in our grassed area across the road.  At the end of the colour run two lucky teachers Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Marziano - as voted by our 5/6 students and a lucky parent  - Aodhan Olson will be slimed!!

We can't wait to give you an update on our final Fundraising tally.  All funds raised will help towards our much needed Library refurbishment.

Inform and Empower

As announced at our Assembly last week, our local Bendigo Bank Branch in Parkdale are proudly sponsoring a Cyber Safety Program here at St Brigid’s.  This program begins with a Cyber Safety Evening for parents on Thursday November 21 and will continue with the involvement of all of our students in 2025.

We are really encouraging parents to take advantage of this great opportunity.  Come and learn how to keep your children safe online. Our presenters are Martin and Carley McGauran from Inform and Empower.   The presentation will run for 90 mins and all who attend will have exclusive access to valuable resources.  This is a relevant, honest and thought provoking presentation that will give parents and carers tools to use at home to navigate the very tricky 'Digital World' we now live in.

We really encourage families to attend. Please use this link to register.

Parents and Friends

We are still looking for Class Parent Reps for 2025 and a Social and Fundraising Team.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Save The Date!!!

Have a wonderful week.

With thanks

Wendy Sullivan
