The Week That Was in Prep!

What a fantastic week it has been in our Prep classroom! We’ve welcomed two new students, Aiden and Harram, who have already become wonderful additions to our cohort. The class has warmly embraced them, and we’re thrilled to have them on this exciting learning journey with us.

Literacy

This week in Literacy, our students have been hard at work practising their sounds and using these skills to sound out and write sentences. We are learning to remember all the important parts that make a great sentence! In addition, we’ve embarked on an exciting new project – writing narratives. Creativity is in full swing as the students begin to craft their own stories, developing their unique characters and imaginative plots. We can’t wait to see where their imaginations take them!

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we’ve been having fun with subtraction games, building both understanding and enthusiasm around this concept. We have also been exploring location and direction, a timely topic following our recent zoo excursion. Students have been using positional language to describe where objects are and practising giving directions – a fun way to reinforce these essential skills.

Our Zoo Excursion

We had our first-ever Prep excursion to the zoo, and what an unforgettable day it was! We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, and the students’ impeccable behaviour made us so proud. They were engaged, curious, and enthusiastic throughout the day. We would like to extend a big thank you to our amazing parent helpers – Janet, Rebecca, Tia, and Kimberly – whose generous time and support made the experience enjoyable and memorable for everyone.

The students were thrilled to see a wide range of animals up close and to learn fascinating facts during our educational session with Zoo Education Leaders. The session provided an in-depth look at animal habitats and lifestyles, tying in wonderfully with our current learning themes.
