Building Works and Library House
With the current library's demolition imminent, we have been asked how students will access the wonderful world of books and reading during the build process in 2025.
Head of Primary School Phill van Ryn was excited to share that one of the two units owned by the school, located on West Tamar Road, will be set up as a Library House.
"The Library House will contain the entire collection of books throughout the rooms and be a vibrant space, ensuring that our students have continued access to books, as well as reading support."
Mrs Dykman and Miss Lambie will manage the circulation desk and classes will have rostered times for borrowing and reading in the space. In fine weather, students will also be encouraged to read outside in the Library House's yard.
"As we look ahead to the grand opening of our new library in 2026, we acknowledge that there will be some disruption. However, I'm confident that the Library House will provide a pleasant space to continue to encourage avid readers in our school community," Mr van Ryn said.
Anyone for Tea?
Did you know that all tea comes from the same plant? Our Year 10 History students are nodding their heads because they recently participated in Mr Jansen's famed annual Chinese tea ceremony. Green, white, oolong, black – all tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant, he shared, explaining that the unique flavours are achieved in the way the leaves are processed once picked.
Using the Gong-fu method, meaning 'prepared with care and time' (the same word as Kung-fu in a different dialect), Mr Jansen demonstrated the way the tea is poured for multiple infusions to access stronger and more complex flavours.
Students were particularly impressed with Mr Jansen's tea-pouring prowess, pouring from height in a steady stream into a jug.
"It's partly for show," he admitted, "But it's also for the aeration of the tea."
What a fantastic class! Ask one of the Year 10 History students if they enjoyed the flavour of their tea.
Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon Tea
It was a delight to welcome all the wonderful volunteers in the LCS community for a Thank You afternoon tea on Tuesday. Our Head of Operations and Human Resources, Liz Winter, said it was important to acknowledge that, without the generosity of our volunteers, we wouldn't be able to offer so many of the vibrant experiences that become significant student memories. School camps, parent help in the classroom, excursions, sports team coaching and school community events are to name just a few.
"While they may work behind the scenes, our volunteers are essential to the success of LCS, offering support and resources that help our school and students flourish. We truly appreciate the time and effort they generously give to make a positive impact on our community," she said.
It was truly an honour to host our volunteers, and such a joy to see their love for our school. Volunteers: your time and dedication is an absolute gift!
Robotics
Our Year 10 students have been busy tinkering with their robotics/mechatronics projects under Mr McIntosh's expert eye. This elective class introduces students to electronic concepts, circuit simulation software, basic testing of equipment, and the Arduino microprocessor.
Students build a project and basic robotics, while keeping a detailed journal. It's a wonderful pre-vocational course that leads into studying Electronics in Year 11 and 12. In an increasingly automated world, this subject gives students practical experience for the workplace, applicable to jobs including electrician, mechanic, and engineer.
We also love the opportunity the subject gives students to appreciate the creative genius of God, to marvel at interrelationships that emerge between different types of electronic circuits and other disciplines such as mathematics and science.

Important Reminder: Parking @ Windsor Oval in Term 4
We are incredibly grateful to the council for generously providing us with parking at Windsor Oval, ensuring our community has convenient access to LCS. However, Windsor Park Precinct is resurfacing the football oval, which will impact drop-off and pick-up throughout Term 4.
Temporary Parking Update:
- Parents can drop off and pick up on the cricket club room side of the oval (previously no-parking).
- The usual parking area is closed.
The left-hand (west) side of the oval is inaccessible, please use the right-hand (east) side of the oval for pick up / drop off.
We ask all families to follow this plan during the renovations.
If it is convenient for you, please consider parking on the highway or at Riverbank.
