Kinder News
At Moreland Kindergarten, over the last few weeks it has been filled with creativity, learning, and emotional growth. The children participated in several special activities that not only nurtured their artistic abilities but also supported their emotional and social development.
The first activity was inspired by the book Silly Billy by Anthony Browne, where the children created their own worry dolls. As they crafted their dolls, they listened to the story, which teaches children how to manage their worries by "sharing" them with a small doll. This activity provided a fun, hands-on way for the children to express and externalize their emotions. By creating their dolls, they learned coping strategies for anxiety in a playful and imaginative way.
Later, we had an exciting visit from the Merri-Bek Dental Program! The children learned all about the importance of taking care of their teeth—brushing, flossing, and why it’s so important to visit the dentist regularly. After our dental lesson, the children were eager to put their new knowledge into practice through a fun puzzle challenge. Working together, they completed puzzles featuring the story of the very hungry caterpillar.
It was wonderful to watch how the children communicated, shared ideas, and worked as a team to solve the puzzles, and we were equally proud of their teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Additionally, the children explored their creativity through puff paint painting. This activity encouraged sensory exploration as the children enjoyed the tactile experience of working with soft, squishy paint. They practiced fine motor skills, like holding the paintbrush and applying paint with precision, while also experimenting with textures and colours to create their unique works of art.
Through these activities, the children developed a wide range of skills—from emotional regulation and creative thinking to problem-solving, teamwork, and fine motor development. It’s been a fantastic few weeks of learning, growth, and fun!
