CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to use visual representations to describe different emotions.

VOCABULARY

Emotions: Emotions are strong feelings we have inside us. They help us react to things that happen around us. Emotions can be happy, like when we laugh and feel good, or they can be sad, like when we feel like crying. There are many different emotions, like excitement, anger, fear, and surprise. Emotions help us understand how we feel about things, and they can show us when something is important or when we need help.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Assist your child in creating a visual representation for three emotions of their choice (for example: happy, sad, angry, excited, scared, surprised, confused, proud, tired or nervous).

For each emotion, encourage them to think about:

  • What colors represent that emotion (e.g., bright colors for happiness, dark colors for sadness)?
  • What symbols or images might show that emotion (e.g., a sun for happiness, rain for sadness)?
  • How the emotion might look on a face (expressions).

For example:

Happy: A bright yellow sun with a smiling face and colorful balloons.

Sad: A blue raindrop with a frown and a cloud overhead.

Angry: A red volcano with steam coming out and an angry face.
