Writing
CURRICULUM FOCUS
We are learning to understand the elements of persuasive writing and speaking.
VOCABULARY
Persuasive writing is a type of writing where the author tries to convince the reader to agree with their opinion, believe in an idea, or take a specific action. It uses reasons, facts, examples, and sometimes emotional language to make the reader see things from the author’s point of view.
Persuasive speaking is when someone talks in a way that tries to convince the audience to agree with their opinion, believe in an idea, or take a specific action. For example, in a persuasive speech about saving the environment, a student might talk about the dangers of pollution, share facts about how recycling helps, and encourage the audience to reduce waste.
