Year 2 October Newsletter 

Literacy - Little Learners

In Literacy, we have been learning new long vowel sounds in Stage 7.4 Little Learners Love Literacy. We know it is a long vowel sound when it says its name. We are beginning to learn about silent letters such as kn as in knock and gn as in gnome, and alternative spellings for ch such as school, before we move on to u-e as in rude, ue as in Tuesday, u as in music, and ew as in new.

Writing

In Writing, we finished our unit on Narrative texts and are so proud of the pieces of writing we were able to complete. Take a look below!

This term, we have been revising conjunctions, e.g. because, but, so that, and. We also have been looking at finishing sentences.

Knowledge

In Knowledge, we have begun our Geography of Australia unit. We can explain where Australia is in the world and we have been busy exploring and identifying the Australian states and territories. In the coming weeks, we will explore more about each of the states and territories.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we are starting our units on money and patterns. In money, we are focusing on the value of notes and coins and counting collections of money. 

We are developing our knowledge of patterns by discussing what is a pattern and what are growing patterns. We will be discussing the rules for each pattern, such as adding 2, taking away 3, adding a square.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

In SEL, we have been continuing to explore Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy. We have been doing so by thinking about how we can be mindful and how we react to different situations. We had fun participating in Mindful Yoga.

Auslan

 In Auslan, we have been revising the signs that we learnt in Term 3.
