Phonics

In Phonics, we have learnt more digraphs, including /er/ (river monster cake), /ur/ (bursting balloons) and /ir/ (dirty shirt). When we learn a new sound, we always practise the skills of segmenting and blending words. We do this through learning activities like ‘Let’s Spell’ and ‘Let’s Write’, as well as fun games like ‘Super Spelling.’

Writing & Knowledge

In Writing, we are learning about information reports, including their purpose, structure, and the different language used when writing them. We know that information reports teach us new and exciting information. We will use information reports to present all the interesting facts we are learning about Ancient Egypt. So far, we have learned about where Egypt is and how to locate it on a map, the Nile River, and Ancient Egyptian people and the jobs they had.

In Writing, we have learnt about prepositional language, and we can now include these words in our writing to describe where something is. For example, Egypt is located in Africa, next to the Sahara Desert.

Numeracy

In Maths, we have been working on place value and sharing collections, we know that the value of a digit depends on its place in a number. For example, in 52, the 5 represents 50 and in 65, the 5 represents 5. When we look at sharing collections, we have learnt how to group objects and share them equally. For example, if we have 10 counters and share them with 2 friends, each person gets 5 counters. We have also practised Probability. We know the probability of our teacher growing wings is IMPOSSIBLE!

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

In SEL, we have been continuing our exploration of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM), and Emotional Literacy. We’ve been practising having an “attitude of gratitude,” which means focusing on the things we have rather than being upset about things that don’t go as planned.
