Literacy

In Writing, we have been building our knowledge on how to paraphrase information. This is going to help us in the following weeks when we begin to write our information reports. We have learnt how we can identify if a sentence is unclear to us. We can then paraphrase the information by replacing unknown words with synonyms that are easier for us to understand. By using this skill it helps us put information we read into our own words.

Knowledge

So far this term in Knowledge, our lessons have been about Australian history. In particular we have been learning about the Australian Federation and the history of the Australian government. We have learnt about important people who helped Australia to Federate. These people are Henry Parks, Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin.

Numeracy

This term, our Year 6 students have been diving into exciting concepts in numeracy! They are currently exploring Cartesian planes, where they are learning how to plot coordinates accurately. Additionally, students are enhancing their skills in multiplying and dividing decimals by whole numbers, enabling them to tackle more complex calculations with confidence. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they connect these concepts to real-world scenarios!

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

In SEL our students have been exploring the importance of positive self-talk.  They’re learning how their inner dialogue affects not only their own feelings and confidence but also how they interact with others. By practising positive self-talk, students are discovering that uplifting thoughts can improve their resilience and help create a supportive environment among peers. Encouraging them to speak kindly to themselves can lead to greater empathy and positivity in their interactions.
