Principal’s Message

Welcome to Term 4. This term is an eleven week term and as it is very busy, it will feel like it’s flying by. I’m not quite ready to start thinking about Christmas but it will be here before we know it.

Important student free days coming up

Teachers have a Professional Practice Day on Monday 4th November so this will be a student free day. It’s the day before Melbourne Cup Day (a public holiday) so families will have a long weekend. Theircare will be providing Out of School Hours Care on the Monday, for families who may need it. Please make sure you book in, if OSHC is required by your family.

Our final day of the term is Thursday 19th December and our last assembly will be on Friday 13th December.

Student Placement for 2025 classes

Over the next few weeks, our staff will be busy constructing the classes for next year. When classes are constructed, we consider the academic and social and emotional needs of each child in order to have balanced cohorts that can be supported by their teacher. It is not possible for parents to request a teacher; however, if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s academic or wellbeing needs that you would like to discuss, please speak with your child’s teacher within the next week. The teacher knows your child well and can provide insight into their needs at school.

Gilgai Plains presents “The Wizard Of Oz”

You are invited to our production of The Wizard Of Oz on Friday 6th December. Every student is participating in our production and have been very busy rehearsing their parts during their Performing Arts sessions and some, during lunch and recess.

The production will be an outdoor theatre spectacular under our new court cover, from 6pm -8pm. Families are advised to eat their dinner at home before they arrive as there will be no opportunity to eat during the production.

More information will be coming home over the next few weeks. We are really excited about this special event and hope that everyone can join us.

Maintenance and Projects around our school

Our school grounds are looking beautiful due to many projects and maintenance that have been completed or are still in the process of being completed.

-Our new synthetic grass looks fantastic and our students are enjoying being able to picnic on it, do cartwheels and play games. It makes such a big difference to not have gravel and stones overtaking our paths.

-The students are loving our new Gilgai Village. The cubbies are very cute and cater to lots of imaginative play. The area is not quite finished yet, with some picnic tables and decorative features still to be installed.

-We have another playground being installed in November. This will be for our Year 2 students and includes a tower and giant twisty slide. We can’t wait for that one!

-Our new Buddy Bench should be here in the next couple of weeks. This is dedicated to the memory of our Year 1 student Eugene, who tragically died a year ago.

-Many parents have asked for another bike shed to be installed at our Toyon Rd entrance. We are currently looking at this option and doing our best to make it happen.

We leave our gates open over the weekend and holidays to encourage our families to use our great resources. We ask that when you do this, you look out for any suspicious activity and please don’t hesitate to call the police if you see any vandalism occurring. We are so proud of our beautiful school and rely on our community to ensure it is well looked after.

We speak at length with our students about our value of Respect and they are proving to us that they can indeed, treat our resources respectfully, even when no one is watching. It’s so important that we can continue to provide the best opportunities for our students and that we can all have a sense of gratitude for everything that we have.

I hope you have had an opportunity to enjoy the lovely sunshine we have experienced.

Have a great weekend. See you next week.
