Wellbeing
This term, we will continue focusing on all aspects of The Resilience Project, helping learners deepen their understanding of resilience through Empathy, Mindfulness, Gratitude, and Emotional Literacy. These themes will be integrated into key learning areas, including Writing, Math, and Reading.
Learners will write about a scene of their choice, using descriptive nouns and verbs to explore their own guided meditation. They will also take part in a gratitude hunt around the school, identifying things they appreciate and creating a graph to show their findings. Collaboration will be encouraged as students work together to explore empathy and understand different perspectives. Emotional literacy will be developed through activities like the ‘brain splat’, where students expand their emotional vocabulary.
By gaining a greater understanding of these essential skills, each child will be better prepared for the upcoming camp experience—whether attending Silverband Lodge or staying at school—as they continue building connections with their peers.
Key Vocabulary:
-guided meditation
-gratitude for surroundings
-emotional awareness
-positive attitude in setbacks
How can you support your child’s Wellbeing learning at home?
- Take time each day to reflect on things your family is grateful for; this can be done by having a “gratitude walks” in your community
- Talk about emotions openly and help your child label their feelings by asking questions like, “How did that make you feel?” and “Why do you think you felt that way?”
- Set aside a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques by following simple guided meditation videos or just sit quietly together, focusing on deep breathing and calming the mind
