Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,
World Teacher’s Day
Many thanks to families for recently celebrating World Teacher’s Day with us. Your acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of our staff is appreciated. Our senior students did an exceptional job, cooking, preparing, and serving a delicious lunch last Friday afternoon. The Student Voice Team also spoke beautifully at assembly and a wonderful time was had by all.
SunSmart
A reminder that the sun is now shining brightly often. Students must have a hat when outdoors, including break times and PE lessons. Ensuring your child has a named school hat that is left at school is appreciated.
House Athletics
Our Year 2 & 3 House Athletics was a superb event with all children participating, trying their best and showing fantastic house spirit. Many thanks to Mr Runchey and Mrs Jenkins for creating another wonderful sporting event.
Fundraising
Many thanks to our Community Connect team who have brought two new events to our community recently to include our Golf Day and Oaks Day events.
Class placement 2025
At this time of year, as a staff we often reflect on the strong home school relationships that we have at Derinya. We are very grateful for your proactive and diligent support of your children’s learning and engagement at school. All communications around class placement have now been entered into our AI program and families who shared information have received confirmation of submission via a return email. If you did not receive this, please feel free to reach out.
Forming classes for the year ahead is both exciting and challenging. We aim to put all children’s academic and social and emotional needs at the forefront of our decision making. There are a few requests that are not able to be considered. This includes specific gender of teachers (unless there are exceptional circumstances), specific staff members, levels of experience of staff and multiple friend pairings. We plan for all children to have one friend that they work well with.
Child Safety and Wellbeing at Derinya
Derinya Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.
Our child safety framework explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at Derinya Primary School It includes our:
Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.
These can all be found on our website https://derinya.vic.edu.au/about/#policies
Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:
our commitment to child safety, and
how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.
If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact the principal on 97873633. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our Complaints Policy at https://derinya.vic.edu.au/about/#policies
We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact a member of the executive team to include Nadine.Pye@education.vic.gov.au, Stuart.Charles@education.vic.gov.au or Cory.Stevens@education.vic.gov.au.
Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend ahead.
Kind Regards,
Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya team.
