In Cooking this week Prep/one cooked Broccoli Wontons (V) and Rice Paper Wontons (GF V Fat free)
We used Broccolini, Silverbeet, Spring Onions, Garlic Chives and Chives from the garden.
Sarah’s group cut the chives and garlic chives into small pieces using scissors, this is a great way to cut chives into small even pieces. They then mashed the potatoes for the filling until it was smooth. After finishing each task everyone did a great job, clearing the table and wiping them ready for the next task.
Chris’ group washed, trimmed and cut the Broccolini into small pieces and prepared the spring onions for the Wonton filling.
Cooper and his group cooked the spring onions, broccolini and chives in the frypan and took turns stirring the mixture until it was soft.
They also learned how to measure out tablespoons of the miso paste to bind the broccoli filling.
We put all the ingredients for the broccoli filling into large bowls and everyone had a turn mixing it until it was combined and smooth.
To make the wontons a Prep and a Grade 1 student worked together to learn how to fold the wontons, it was a great way for them to help each other follow the step by step instructions.
Sarah’s group made the Rice Paper Broccoli Wontons (GF Oil free) , using rice paper and the filling that had been steamed and cooled before it was wrapped. Chris’ group made the Broccoli Wontons using wonton wrappers. Everyone did a great job following the instructions and helping each other to make the wontons. They were very proud of their efforts. While the wontons were boiling, the students cleaned up, rinsed and washed the dishes and set the table.
We served the Broccoli Wontons and Rice Paper Wontons with chives and garlic chives and Tamari. Some students also enjoyed their Broccoli Wontons with a simple vegetable broth made from fried onions, chives, vegetable stock and tamari.
It was great to see that all students tried and enjoyed the food they made. Well done P/1 on a great cooking session.
The recipes are attached with the instructions for how to fold the wontons.
