25th Oct 2024

Dear Families,

World Teachers’ Day

Today, we celebrated World Teachers' Day, a special occasion to recognize and appreciate the dedication, hard work, and passion of our amazing teachers. We are grateful for their commitment to nurturing and inspiring our students every day. Please join us in thanking our educators for all they do.

Transition to 2025

To support our learners transitioning into 2025, we will hold three "step-up" events for our Year Prep to Year 5 students. The first two sessions will focus on Literacy on Monday, December 2, and Numeracy on Tuesday, December 3, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in their new learning spaces for 2025. On the Statewide Transition Day, Tuesday, December 10, children will spend time with their 2025 class and teacher, provided we have finalized mentor teachers by that day.

Staffing

We are currently recruiting teachers for 2025 as we plan to increase from 15 to possibly 16 or 17 mentor groups.

Class Placement for 2025

As we begin forming classes for 2025, we invite parents and caregivers to submit any special requests regarding their child’s grade placement. Please send your requests to the school office email at keelonith.ps@education.vic.gov.au by Tuesday, November 6, addressed to me. Requests may relate to friendship concerns, learning needs, or family matters. However, we cannot accommodate requests regarding individual teachers. Later this term, classroom teachers will facilitate a process for all children to list five friends, ensuring that every child will have at least one of those friends in their mentor group for the following year.

Transition Days for 2025 Preps

  • Session 1: Wednesday, November 13, 9:15 AM – 10:30 AM (Maths session for Parents/Carers)
  • Session 2: Tuesday, November 26, 9:15 AM – 10:30 AM (Literacy session for Parents/Carers)
  • Session 3: Tuesday, December 12, 9:15 AM – 12:00 PM

Change of Clothes

We have a limited supply of uniform items available for students with wet or soiled clothing. We recommend that parents pack spare clothes in their child's school bag for emergencies. Items such as underwear, shorts, tracksuit pants, and socks are particularly in demand. Please ensure that all clothing worn or brought to school is clearly labeled with your child's name to help prevent loss. If your child has borrowed clothes from the school, kindly return them.

Active Kids Voucher

Eligible Victorian families can now apply online for a $200 Get Active Kids voucher. These vouchers can be redeemed at registered providers, including local sporting clubs and organizations. The program is open to Victorian children aged 18 and under who are named on a valid Commonwealth Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or Medicare Card at the time of application. A special consideration stream is available for children in care, temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants, and international students up to 18 years at the time of application. For more information or to apply, please visit the Get Active Kids Vouchers website.

Cybersafety

We encourage all families to educate themselves about keeping their children safe online. This education should begin well before children have their own devices. We recommend visiting the eSafety Commission website for resources and information to help protect your family online.

Warm regards,

Loren Peavey
