LOTE Innovation

Year 3 and Year 4

As we step into Term 4, our Year 3 and 4 students are set to embark on a delightful new project centred around the art of Chinese shadow puppetry. This term, students will begin by crafting their own shadow puppets, engaging in a creative process that includes designing, cutting, painting, and assembling their puppets. Once their puppets are ready, they will use them to retell a Chinese folk story, allowing them to develop their storytelling skills while immersing themselves in traditional Chinese culture. In addition to puppet-making and storytelling, we will incorporate lessons on traditional Chinese art forms and storytelling techniques, providing a comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience that deepens students' appreciation of Chinese culture and history.

Year 5 and Year 6

For Year 5 and 6 students this term, our focus will be on an engaging project: the Chinese shadow puppet show. Students will start by designing and creating their own shadow puppets, exploring the traditional techniques of Chinese puppetry. They will then use these puppets to bring a Chinese folk story to life, enhancing their storytelling and presentation skills. Alongside this creative project, we will continue to expand students’ vocabulary and sentence construction, incorporating Chinese idioms and expressions from the folk tales they present. This approach not only enriches their understanding of the Chinese language but also deepens their connection to Chinese culture through the art of shadow puppetry. We look forward to an exciting term of creative exploration and cultural learning.
