Principal's Message
Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
On Tuesday Night we were treated to some incredible student performances at the annual Spring Soiree. For those you who haven’t before attended a soiree it is well worth adding to the calendar for next year! There were a number of group performances by the choir as well as a group of year 5 / 6 students along with many individual performances showcasing instrumental skills. It was evident that performing students spend many hours practising and improving their musical skills. Some of our students even play more than one instrument! Congratulations to our music captains Liam and Victoria who hosted the evening with Rhiannon making mention that Victoria also arranged the music for the choir piece herself! Thank you to our wonderful music teacher Rhiannon on creating an environment that encourages and supports so many of our students to bravely perform and showcase their talent.
Term 4 continues to provide us all with a very busy time but so many fun extra-curricular experiences! This week we celebrate Walk to School week and Ride to school day on Friday 1st November. Next week we have Year 1 dinner at school, our third Prep transition session, a drama enrichment incursion and our year 5/6 boys head off to the School Sport Victoria netball tournament!
Our whole school swimming program commences on November 18th. If parents have any questions about this program or the arrangements please don’t hesitate to reach out to either Clare or Jen to discuss.
Our School fete is fast approaching and excitement in the community is certainly building! I know I’ve purchased wrist bands for rides on the day! We do need families to please sign up to do a short shift volunteering on your child’s class stall. At this stage there are some stalls that have gaps on their roster and we of course don’t want the work to fall just to a few families.
We have a Pupil Free reporting day on Monday 4th November, families will need to make alternative care arrangements for the day. Staff will be working on assessing and reporting on student learning on this day. (Team kids is available for those that need care on the day.) For families looking to head away for a long weekend, safe travels.
Wishing our families that celebrate Diwali a happy and enjoyable time together!
Our thoughts are with the Auburn South Primary School community this week. Take the opportunity this weekend to give your children extra cuddles.
Kind Regards,
Clare and Jen
