Wrapping up Finding Nemo Jr
What a privilege it is to have a job that allows me to focus all my creative energy on a project that so wonderfully showcases our students' talents in the performing arts. Like a baby, these shows are nurtured, fed, and willed into existence by our dedicated teachers and production team, who know the satisfaction and fulfillment that lies within their completion.
From the first concept meetings, stage design and the first rehearsal, we feel the momentum building towards the shows. And then to eventually accomplish such a level of success, year after year, is truly a testament to our incredible team here at Girton.
The students as usual didn’t disappoint. From the Year 2 mini-Dorys, the Year 4 turtles and all the wonderful characters the Year 6 students portrayed, our students brought this incredible show to life. I’m so immensely proud of their hard work and I hope they are too.

From the cast
“Hi I’m Minsa. I am new to Girton this year. This year in the production of Finding Nemo Jr I played Gurgle, a germophobic gramma fish in the Tank Crew. The whole experience of learning about my character and how to become Gurgle was AMAZING." – Minsa Chaudry (6 Millward)
“I loved being Bruce, the main shark. I felt so confident on stage because I knew that I was doing a good job. Playing Bruce made me feel so much more relaxed on stage that I’m definitely going to try out for the production next year (even though I felt so nervous off stage!).” – William Martin (6 Jones)
“I had an amazing time playing the role of the vacationer, and I loved to eat the chips. I was proud that I tried my best on the stage. My mum and my family cheered very loudly for me and I got three bouquets of flowers (and one of them was made of chips!). I also loved singing my heart out in the vocal booth.”
– Josephine Turpie (6 Millward)
Musical Storytime
On Tuesday 29 October, the Year 10 Music Elective Class presented a beautifully crafted 'Musical Storytime' to our Prep and Year 1 students, as well as to some of our 2025 Prep students.
The book that was chosen was The African Orchestra by Wendy Hartman and Joan Rankin. The book celebrates the African sounds of nature and uses language and artwork to inspire students' imaginations. Our Year 10 students composed pieces of music based on parts of the book, which, when presented in conjunction with the text, enhanced comprehension for our young students. The task also provided our older music students with a wonderful forum to present their music.
This year there were some amazingly atmospheric pieces of music presented that engaged the young audience. The Prep and Year 1 students were clapping along and clearly enjoying the music around them. At the end of the presentation, the Prep and Year 1 students asked questions about the instruments they saw and heard, and learnt why an instrument might produce a low sound or a high sound. It was truly a wonderful way to bring together students from across our school community.

T20 Cricket Blast Cup
This term, our Junior School participated in the annual T20 Blast School Cup held at Catherine McAuley College, Junortoun. The T20 Blast School Cup is a state-wide round-robin competition for boys and girls with modified rules. Each game consists of a 16 over game (8 over innings per team), and every player bats, bowls and wicketkeeps. Emphasis is on fun and participation, and of course hitting lots of sixes!
This year, we entered two boys and two girls teams. All the players had a wonderful day, playing four games, with mixtures of wins and losses. The Boys Division 1 team won all three preliminary games, including one game by two runs with a last ball six by Hunter Fourie!
Well done to all students who represented our Junior School in cricket this year!
