Bendigo Canoe Club/Bendigo Academy of Sport – Kayak and Canoe Program

What is the program?

This program is a partnership between the Bendigo Canoe Club and Bendigo Academy of Sport and is supported by Paddle Victoria. The program includes regular sessions focusing on flatwater and team boat skills, with the opportunity to do whitewater, ocean and recreational paddling. All equipment is provided. We offer camps, trips, athlete education sessions and a strength and conditioning program at La Trobe University. Our program is unique as we provide athletes with kayaks for the duration of the program, so families are not required to purchase a boat upfront. This model assists athlete development, and provides families time and guidance to make better decisions.

Eligibility

Athletes must be 12 years of age by 1/10/24 and under 19 years as of 31/12/24

Time and location

Nov 2024–end of May 2025 at Lake Weeroona, Bendigo

Cost

Approx. $300 to $500 (TBC once we get close to finalising numbers)

'Come and try' sessions

The Bendigo Canoe Club and Bendigo Academy of Sport are seeking applications for juniors to join their BCC/BAS Junior Kayak squad. We invite families to contact us to attend a free 'come and try' session, which will include:

  • Introduction to a range of kayaks we use in the program (flatwater/whitewater)
  • Demonstrations by national team members
  • Opportunity to paddle in racing kayak with national athlete
  • Short presentation outlining the program

Please contact Tony on 0411 605 239 to select one of the 30-minute sessions. We require your name, DOB, address and a parent's mobile number.

The program is subsidised and all equipment will be provided. You just need to bring a change of clothes and a positive attitude.

If you have any questions regarding the program please contact Tony on 0411 605 239 or tmisson@iprimus.com.au

Bendigo Academy of Sport Netball Trials: Screening Day

The Bendigo Academy of Sport is recognised in the Netball Victoria Pathway for the under-15 age group and will be conducting a screening day for potential netballers to trial for our Bendigo Netball Squad.

Netball Victoria has already identified many athletes for the trials, who will soon receive an email inviting them to trial, but we are also searching for hidden gems who may not have had the opportunity to be identified throughout 2024.

When: Sunday 10 November 2024

Time: Registration 10:00am; Trials 10:15am–1:00pm

Eligibility: Male and female athletes born in 2010 or 2011 who reside within our catchment area (yellow area shown on map below)

Registration: To register, submit the online form with the required details. Registrations close Tuesday 5 November 2024.

Please register, and if you receive an email from Netball Victoria stating that you have been talent identified (TID) for under-15 trials we will cross-reference this and you will not need to attend this pre-trial screening day. Please do not register for this screening day if you have received an email from Netball Victoria indicating that you have been talent identified (TID) to attend trial.

Location:  Flora Hill Stadium, Bendigo South East College (Keck Street, Flora Hill)
