Faith and Mission

At John XXIII College, our fundraising is not just about raising money; it is about living our faith and responding to the call of the Gospel. Guided by our College motto, Seek Justice, our fundraising reflects our commitment to dignity, compassion and solidarity with those most in need.

In Term 1, our whole‑College fundraising focus is Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, a long‑standing Catholic initiative that supports vulnerable communities both in Australia and around the world. Project Compassion works alongside communities to address poverty, promote education and healthcare, empower women and children, and create sustainable futures built on justice rather than charity alone. By supporting Caritas, our students are invited to see the human face of injustice and to respond with hope, generosity and action.

Our College Fundraising Guidelines ensure that all fundraising activities are ethical, transparent and aligned with our Catholic identity. Fundraising at John XXIII College prioritises organisations such as Caritas Australia and other agencies that reflect Catholic Social Teaching. These guidelines help us to focus our efforts, ensure equity, and remind us that fundraising should enhance learning and faith formation. Through this shared approach, we model what it means to be 'people for others'.

Across the College, students participate in age‑appropriate initiatives that allow everyone to contribute. In the Primary School, students will support Project Compassion through initiatives such as Frozen Fridays and contributions to the Project Compassion Wishing Well, helping our youngest learners to understand generosity, empathy and social responsibility in meaningful and accessible ways.

In the Secondary School, a key highlight of our Project Compassion efforts is Live Simply Day on Thursday, 26 March. On this day, students are invited to stand in solidarity with those who live with far less than we do. Participants may choose to live simply by giving up certain comforts such as food, technology, or transport, while being sponsored for their efforts.

Together, these Primary and Secondary initiatives highlight our shared commitment to justice, compassion and faith in action. Whether through small daily choices or collective acts of generosity, our students are learning that everyone has a role to play in building a more just world.

Community Mass

Thank you to the amazing Year 10 students who prepared this morning’s Community Mass and committed to being at school early, following their river cruise and a busy week; their leadership was much appreciated. We proclaimed the readings of the Fourth Sunday in Lent, including the account of Samuel responding to God’s prompting to anoint David as king. In his homily, Fr Lovin referred to our own somewhat limited perceptions, while God looks deep into a person’s heart.

Do you have a child in Year 3, 4 or 6?

Families are encouraged to enrol their child in their parish without delay. Next week, many parishes will be closing their enrolments for 2026. The College website has links to sacrament program information from some of our local parishes.

Students will be preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation in Year 3, First Holy Communion in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6.

Preparing for the sacraments is a three-way collaboration of family, parish and school. This means that parents exercise their right in choosing to enrol their child in the parish; the school provides the learning experiences to prepare the children, and the parish arranges the celebration of the sacrament. Parishes require that students be enrolled.

Parents often have questions about the Sacrament program, so please don’t hesitate to ask. Below are some useful points of contact:
