Bus Travel Expectations Reminder

As many of our students travel to and from school using the PTV bus service, we are reminding all families of the importance of safe, respectful behaviour while commuting.

Students are expected to represent Birranga College by demonstrating our values of Belong, Believe, Become -

  • Showing respect to others
  • Following bus driver instructions
  • Remaining seated,
  • Making responsible choices

Recently, we have seen some unsafe behaviours such as play fighting, inappropriate language, and misuse of the stop button, which we are actively addressing.

The bus is part of the public transport network, and all students must follow PTV rules. Unsafe or inappropriate behaviour may result in school consequences and, in some cases, fines.

Please note that the bus is currently at or near capacity. If your child does not need to access the bus service, we ask families to consider alternative travel arrangements, such as walking, riding, or being dropped off, where possible.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home to ensure the bus remains a safe and positive environment for all students.

Helmets

We encourage all students to wear a helmet every day when riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards to and from school. Helmets provide essential protection in case of falls or accidents—even on short trips. Making it a simple habit—helmet on every time—takes just a few seconds but can make a huge difference in keeping your child safe. Let’s work together to make safety a daily routine!

Riding an E-bike

If students are riding an E-bike to school then they must comply with the following restrictions when arriving at and leaving from school:

  • E-bikes having a motor of no more than 250 watts, providing pedal-assist only, with motor assistance ceasing above 25 km/h, or be a legally power-assisted bicycle with no more than 200 watts of ungoverned power. .
  • Riders must wear an approved helmet at all times.
  • All Victorian road rules and traffic regulations must be followed.
