YEAR 6

FROM THE TEAM
This week, our Year 6 students are beginning a new text for their Reading unit titled ‘My Place’. Using this text, they are developing their comprehension skills by identifying unfamiliar vocabulary, exploring different tiers of words, and using who, what, when, where, and why to help summarise key events within the text. They have also been using evidence from the text to determine the main idea or theme of the text.
In Writing, students are analysing the structure of a persuasive text and beginning to plan their own persuasive piece. They are identifying key language features such as tone and formality and presenting their opinion as a fact.
In Maths, students are learning about different types of angles and how to measure them accurately with a protractor. Students are also learning to identify complementary, supplementary, and vertically opposite angles.
During Inquiry, students have been continuing our Australian Stories unit and learning how immigration policies have changed over time. We have explored migration stories to better understand how Australia has become a more welcoming and multicultural nation.
