YEAR 2

FROM THE TEAM

It has been another busy and fun week of learning in Year 2. Our Year 2 students have been reading different genre texts and developing our comprehension by learning the vocabulary, summarising and finding the main idea. They have continued to explore our text ‘Local Woodcutter Wins Through’ in Writing and have been learning some new vocabulary which features in the text. In Maths, they have been learning and applying many strategies to solve addition and subtraction.

There are many exciting events coming up as we near the end of this term. The Book Fair runs from 19th March to 26th March, the Colour Run is on Thursday the 26th of March, as well as the Easter Bonnet Parade on the 2nd of April which is also the last day of Term 1. Students will finish early at 2:30pm on the last day of term.

LEARNING INTENTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK

LITERACY

In Reading, our Year 2 students are exploring the mentor text ‘Spoon’ by Amy Rosenthal. Through this text, we will continue to build our student’s vocabulary by identifying and discovering new words and their meanings. Students will develop their comprehension skills by identifying the main idea and practice how to summarise what we have read in a clear and concise way.

In Writing, students will begin to innovate and create their own text based on ‘Local Woodcutter Wins Through’. 

MATHS

We are learning to explore and develop our knowledge of 2D shapes. We will be recognising, comparing and learning the vocabulary to describe shapes. 

INQUIRY

We are continuing to explore family traditions and celebrations. Students will extend their learning by going further and creating something to share their culture with others.

WELLBEING

We are learning to describe how to use strengths to be a good friend or family member.

Something to work on...

Shoelaces

Many of our children have laces on their shoes this year. Please work with your children to help them be independent when tying their own laces! 

Home Reading

Home readers should be coming home nightly. We encourage all students to bring their reader bags and diaries each day to school. Please encourage your child to do the book entries on their own. Where it says ‘homework’, we kindly ask that they write their nights of reading so we can celebrate their success!

Labelling

A reminder to please ensure that hats, jumpers, jackets, drink bottles and lunch boxes are all clearly named. Items that are named are far more likely to be returned to you. 

Tissues

As we near the cooler weather we ask that you please bring in a box of tissues for your child’s class.
