FROM THE TEAM

This week in Reading, students practiced how to find interesting words in a mentor text and learnt to identify the main idea in a story. In Writing, they identified adverbs and tried using them in sentences. 

During Phonics, students focused on the /un-/ prefix and learnt to read and write words that contain the /un-/ prefix. In Mathematics, students used the “count up from” strategy to help them 

solve addition sums. 

In Inquiry, students explored how stories can be told through drama and enacted different stories using costumes. In STEM, students continued working on creating their puppets, giving final touches and using their planners to help guide the design and making process. 

In Wellbeing, students named some skills needed to play in a friendly way and practiced playing a game that challenges them to use their team spirit skills.

READING

WRITING

• I can plan and write my innovation text.
• I can use the taught toolkits to create a new narrative. 

PHONICS

• I can identify, read and write words with  the /-ing/ suffix. 
• I can explain and follow the rules for adding the /-ing/ suffix.

MATHS

• I can use the strategy ‘count back” to calculate subtraction sums. 
• I can use different manipulatives to solve subtraction equations.

WELLBEING

• I can describe how to use strengths to be a good friend or family member.
• I can learn about respect from Aboriginal perspectives.

REMINDERS

As part of our inquiry unit ‘The Storyteller’, students have been investigating different ways people tell stories. To conclude our unit, students will take part in a performance by The Flying Bookworm Theatre Company. Consent and payment for this event is required.
