PREP

FROM THE TEAM
We have had a wonderful week of learning in Prep, filled with engaging activities, new discoveries and lots of exciting growth.
In Phonics, students explored the /d/ and /g/ sounds through a variety of reading, writing and speaking activities. They enjoyed searching for these sounds in different words and practised identifying the beginning sounds when writing. Students also worked on building and writing simple CVC words such as dog and dig. These words follow a consonant–vowel–consonant pattern and help early readers connect letter sounds to written words.
In Mathematics, students focused on comparing and subitising amounts to ten by quickly recognising groups of objects without counting and discussing which groups had more or less. They also developed counting fluency forwards and backwards, strengthening their ability to confidently count in order and build strong number skills.
During Investigations, students shared the celebrations and traditions their families take part in, such as birthdays, holidays and family gatherings. They talked about what happens during these special occasions and why they are meaningful to their families. Sharing these experiences helped students learn about each other and appreciate the many traditions that make our classroom community unique.
During Wellbeing, we learnt that we play safely in the allowed areas and follow our school rules to keep everyone safe. We also talked about how we respect each other’s differences and understand that everyone is unique. Students discussed how we can be kind, include others, and show that we like people for who they are.
During Writing, Prep students explored The Very Hungry Caterpillar through a hands-on tasting experience. They tasted lemon and orange, using descriptive language to talk about how the lemon was sour and tangy and the orange was sweet and juicy. This helped students make meaningful connections to the story while learning about the caterpillar’s growth and transformation into a butterfly.
It has been a wonderful week of learning in Prep!

COLOUR RUN
Next Thursday, 26th March, the Prep students will take part in this fun whole-school event. It is always a highlight on our school calendar and a wonderful way for students to celebrate, have fun, and build excitement together. Please remember to bring a towel for your child to sit on in the car on the way home, or a change of clothing for them to get changed into after the Colour Run.
