From The Team

There has been plenty of excitement and learning happening across the Senior School in recent weeks. Our Year 5/6 students have been having a fantastic time during their swimming sessions. It has been wonderful to see students building confidence in the water, developing their swimming skills, and encouraging one another along the way. The positive attitude and effort shown by our swimmers has been fantastic to see.

Meanwhile, our Year 3/4 students have been diving into their engaging “Under the Sea” project. Students investigated a sea creature of their choice and worked hard to research interesting facts before presenting their findings to their peers. We were so impressed with the creativity, curiosity and presentation skills students demonstrated as they shared their learning about the fascinating creatures that live beneath the ocean’s surface.

Students have also been busy preparing for NAPLAN by completing several practice assessments in NAPLAN-style conditions. These opportunities have helped students become familiar with the format, build confidence, and develop strategies for managing their time and focusing during the tests.

In Rigour sessions, students have been trialling new ways to strengthen their Rainbow Maths skills. They have been practising using a variety of approaches, including engaging online games, targeted maths board games, and dedicated practice with their maths cards. This adjustment has been working really well, with students showing great focus and enthusiasm as they work to build their automatic recall of key maths facts.

Finally, our Winter Sport teams have been hard at work practising and preparing for their upcoming competitions. It has been great to see students demonstrating teamwork, persistence and school spirit as they get ready to represent our school.

Year 5/6 Swimming

About a week ago, the Year 5/6 students went to Knox Leisureworks for their swimming lessons. On Monday, everyone was assessed to make sure they were in the right swimming group. From Tuesday to Wednesday, the students practised different swimming skills and worked on improving their techniques with their instructors.

On Thursday, the Year 5/6s had a Life Safety Day, where they learned important skills about how to stay safe in and around water, and what to do in real-life situations.

Finally, Friday was the fun day! The students played water basketball, went down the huge water slide, and jumped into the deep pool. Everyone had an amazing time!

Overall, the swimming program was lots of fun, and the Year 5/6s really enjoyed the experience.

Clean Up Australia Day

On Sunday the 1st of March it was Clean Up Australia Day, so on Monday the 2nd of March our whole school went to clean up some local parks. The only classes that stayed at school were the Preps and the Year 6s, who cleaned up around the school instead.

We were split into four groups based on our house teams: Chisholm House, Macarthur House, Cook House and Flinders House. Each group walked to a different park to help clean it up. We picked up lots of rubbish and pulled out heaps of weeds. It was pretty hard work!

We found so much rubbish and so many weeds that our buckets and bags were completely full. Some were even overflowing! We spent about an hour cleaning the parks and trying to make them look nicer. When it was time to walk back to school, it started raining, but it actually wasn’t too bad.

About 4,000 schools across Australia took part in this event to help make the environment cleaner and healthier. By the end of our little excursion, our legs felt really heavy and our arms were tired from carrying all the rubbish and weeds, but it felt good knowing we helped clean up our community.
