School Feast Day

Yesterday we celebrated our school's feast day and Catholic Education Week with a beautiful mass in the church. Students also received a special cross to commemorate the day.

All Catholic schools in the Diocese are named after someone important in our faith. A school feast day is when we remember and celebrate whoever is the patron of our school . The word feast comes from the Latin festes, meaning ‘joy’ and symbolises a time of celebration. Our church is called St. Mary’s Church and our school is called Our Lady Star of the Sea, which is one of the special names given to Mary, Jesus' mother. Mary is the patron of our school.

We also celebrated Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year's Catholic Education Week was 'Pilgrims of Hope'. On Wednesday the school's leadership team headed to Beaconsfield to participate in a special celebration with schools from all over the Diocese where we displayed our students' work and a prayer we wrote about being Pilgrims of Hope for our world.

As Pilgrims of Hope, we the community of

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Cowes pray

  • with hope for a world which welcomes all
  • with hope for a world where everyone is accepted and treated with equity
  • with hope for a world where the students at our Sister school in Bali have enough rice to eat every day
  • with hope for a world where everyone plants trees and cares for the environment like we do
  • with hope for a world where everyone is cared for like our Vinnies group looks after those in our local community
  • with hope for a world where friends say sorry when they fight and countries do too
  • with hope for a world where we can be symbols of hope for those in need in our local community
  • with hope for a world where people feel courageous enough to stand up for what is right
  • with hope for a world which is compassionate to all
  • with hope for a world that looks for creative solutions for the challenges of the modern world
  • with hope for a world where Courage, Compassion, and Creativity guide every heart, every hand, and every decision.
