Physical Education

What an active past few weeks we have had at St Mary’s!

On Friday 2nd May, the Grade F-2 students ventured to Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve to participate in the District Schools Tabloid Sports Day.  We had a very active and enjoyable day, participating in a range of different activities.  Well done to all of our students for their positive participation.  We had some great support from some of our Grade 6 leaders who helped the students and also shared the running of an activity on the day.  Thankyou school leaders!

Our Grade F-2 students have also been focusing this term on further developing their team work skills and fundamental motor skills of running and kicking through mini soccer drills and playing modified soccer.  Students have been participating with great enthusiasm and focus.  Well done Grade F-2!

Our Grade 3-6 students have been busy training for, and participating in, various cross country events over recent weeks.  A huge well done to all of our Grade 3 students who participated in the District Cross Country Event at Wesley Hill on Friday 9th May – their first of many over the next few years.  Congratulations also to all of our Grade 3-6 students for their outstanding enthusiasm, persistence and support for their peers demonstrated last Tuesday at our St Mary’s Cross Country Event.  It was lovely to have some families attend to support and encourage the students.

Last Friday 16th May we had a number of students progress onto our Divisional Cross Country event at Wesley Hill. Once again, the positivity and commitment to achieving a goal demonstrated by all of our students was impressive!  All students should be extremely proud of their personal cross country achievements – as discussed with the students, the focus on these events is putting one’s mind to achieving a goal and enjoying that feeling of achievement and strength that comes from persisting…something that can be applied to many things in life!

Our Grade 3-6 students have also been focusing on developing their team work and kicking skills through soccer drills and soccer games.  Students have been demonstrating wonderful cooperation, support and great skill development.

Across all grades, in our health focused discussions, we have been examining inclusion and ways to ensure others feel they belong, ways to manage and positively influence our relationships with others, whether they be friends or fellow class members, equality and respecting how we all respond to things differently which is ok.

Upcoming Sports Events

*Regional Cross Country Event at St Arnaud – congratulations to three of our students who will represent our school and themselves at this event next Tuesday 27th May…well done to Clancy, Mitchell and Alastair for qualifying for this event after your outstanding performance at the Divisional Cross Country event at Wesley Hill last Friday.  We wish you all the very best and hope you enjoy this experience next week!
