Debating

Mordialloc College’s inter-school debating team has seen great success in our inaugural season. A dedicated group of year 10, 11, and 12 students have been competing against schools including Haileybury, Mentone Grammar, Kilbreda College, and Keysborough Secondary College. 

Debate topics have been varied, ranging from the political (‘That political parties should be limited in the number of promises they can make during an election period’) to the more personally relatable (‘That all school and university exams should be open-book.’). Although we have not yet won a debate the margins have been much narrower than one would expect considering the much greater experience of the opposing teams. 

As our students continue to develop their skills, they are sure to establish themselves as an intelligent and adept group of debaters.
