Year 1 - Mathematics

Throughout the first five weeks of Term 2, our Mathematics program focused on building a strong foundation in Number and Place Value.

Students were actively engaged in a variety of hands-on activities designed to make learning both fun and meaningful.

They explored subtraction through games using dominoes, used number lines to support counting and problem-solving, and learnt about place value by bundling objects into groups of ten. These activities helped students deepen their understanding of how numbers work and developed efficient strategies for solving mathematical problems.

Students also explored how to collect and record information and presented data in different formats such as tallies, tables, and graphs. This gave them the opportunity to interpret data and understand how it applied to real-life situations.

We were proud of the enthusiasm students brought to their math learning and looked forward to seeing their skills continue to grow in Term 3.

Thanks,

Angela, Shona and Nadia

Here’s what some of our students had to say:

Jeffery 1A - 'I liked collecting data and surveying my friends and asking questions'.

Aria 1A-  'I liked the maths assessment where we got to complete a survey about different fruits in 1A'.

Jeeya 1A - 'I liked measuring shorter and longer items in the classroom compared to Angela’s shoe'.

James 1S - 'I liked data because you could you show it many ways such as, graphs, surveys and asking questions'.

Maria 1S - 'I liked measuring because we could use paper clips to measure item such as pencils'.

Aveline 1S - 'I liked measuring because I got to measure a wall in classroom'.

Ashton 1N - 'I liked measuring because we got to measure items in the classroom'.

Aidi 1N - 'I liked to bundle because we can make bundles'.

Aurora 1N - 'I liked measuring because I liked to measure my pencil'.
