Foundation Spotlight

A Busy Term!
The Foundation students have had a great start back to their second term of school. They have done an amazing job of settling back into their routines and have been ready to learn!
This term Foundation has been learning all about how to keep their bodies healthy and safe. They have explored how to keep safe in the water and on the road, as well as the importance of being kind and ‘being a bucket filler’. In their ‘Talking the Talk’ lessons they have learnt about their body bubbles, safety network, and knowing and labelling their body parts.
Below you will find some quotes from the students about why this is important:
- “Learning about body bubbles was good because it helps us respect people.” ~ Mati, FC
- “We want to know if someone wants to go in the body bubble or not.” ~ Louis, FB
- “We are bucket fillers so that people don’t feel sad.” ~ Freddie, FB
- “I stay safe by walking away from cars.” ~ Theo, FC
- “I know that swimming in the flags is the safest place.” ~ Hansie, FC
The Foundation students were also lucky enough to get a visit from a paramedic and the ambulance they use to help keep the community safe. They are very excited to meet some firefighters next week!
The Foundation students should be proud of how they’ve continued to develop their literacy skills, channelling ‘Resilient Rex’ to have a go at reading and writing on their own. They have almost learnt all the alphabet characters!
As well as learning new characters, the students have been working hard on developing their fluency, heart word recognition, and matching sounds to letters to spell new words.
Below you will find some of the students' favourite parts of reading:
- Learning the new character. ~ Louis, FB
- I love partner reading because I make friends. ~ Sohi, FB
- I like making words with the letter grid. ~ Millie, FB
This term in writing the students have been learning about nouns and verbs. We have been working on writing complete sentences with a capital letter and full stop, including a ‘who’ and a ‘do’ word. We have recently been learning to expand our sentences by adding when or where to make our sentences interesting!
Learning to read and write is a big job and ‘Learner Lily’ would be proud.
In maths, Foundation has begun learning all about data. We have asked questions such as “What Zone Are You In?” or “Do you like dogs?”, and have been sorting, collecting and comparing data.
Below you will find some photos of some data we have been collecting:
