Celebrating excellence and innovation in Extended Learning
At Emmaus Brooklyn Park, our Extended Learning programs continue to provide rich, challenging, and exciting opportunities for our students to thrive in their curriculum.
Here are some highlights from Term 2 so far:
Year 3 Maths Extension
Our Year 3 Maths Extension group has been diving into fascinating mathematical patterns and concepts. Students have been exploring Fibonacci numbers, prime numbers, triangular numbers, and square numbers. These advanced topics help students see the beauty and structure in numbers, building strong foundational thinking for future mathematical learning.
Year 3 Extension Group – critical and creative thinking
In addition to mathematics, the Year 3 Extension Group has been engaging in a variety of problem-solving games that stretch their minds and foster both critical and creative thinking. Through collaborative challenges and individual tasks, students are learning to approach problems from different angles and justify their thinking with confidence. Students are currently creating their own board games, displaying some of their critical and creative thinking skills.
Year 4 Lego Spike Prime Challenge
Our Year 4 Extension Group has taken on the exciting Lego Spike Prime Challenge. In teams, students are designing, building, and programming robots to complete specific tasks. Not only are they learning coding and engineering principles, but they are also documenting their design journey in a learning journal and creating video presentations to showcase their robots and explain the logic behind their programming. It's been amazing to watch these young engineers bring their ideas to life!
Year 5/6 Extended Learning – Exploring the human body and the power of determination
Our Year 5/6 Extended Learning students have been diving deep into the fascinating world of the human body. Each week, they are investigating a different body part and asking critical questions like, “Why do we need this to survive?” and “Could we live without it?” This inquiry-based approach is building their understanding of how complex and interconnected our systems truly are and how we have been intricately created by God.
To complement this learning, students will soon begin an inspiring author study of Gifted Hands by Ben Carson. Carson’s journey from a struggling student to a renowned paediatric neurosurgeon is a powerful reminder of how perseverance, education, and belief in oneself can lead to extraordinary achievements. His life story will help students connect the scientific learning to real-life impact and personal growth.
We’re thrilled to see Extended Learning continue to flourish at Emmaus Brooklyn Park and can’t wait to see what our innovative learners will achieve next.

'My name is Robin of Locksley and they call me Robin Hood,
If you're looking for a musical, here's one that's REALLY good,
You'll meet my band of merry men - adventurers in the wood,
Ohhh ... Maid Marion's a delight, and Friar Tuck is a sight...
This modern Robin Hood musical is great fun to perform and will be enjoyed by children and parents alike.
Robin Hood is back in town, along with Maid Marian, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Friar Tuck and Richard the Lionheart. Will he succeed in his plight to free the nation from the tyranny of the wicked Sheriff? Will King Richard return from the Crusades in time? And, will Maid Marian get her man?
A swashbuckling modern adaptation of the traditional Robin Hood story, Hoodwinked will have your audience 'booing', 'hissing' and 'cheering' with gusto.' -Out of the Ark Music
