Years 3-6 Athletics Track Events Morning

When the Term 2 Years 3–12 Athletics Carnival was officially cancelled due to weeks of wet weather, staff quickly pivoted to ensure our Primary students didn’t miss out entirely. On Friday 6 June, with clear skies overhead and hardly a breath of wind, the Northern Oval became the stage for a fantastic morning of modified track events for Years 3–6.

The energy was high from the start, with plenty of cheering, encouragement, and House spirit on display. Students from Years 5–6 competed first, followed by Years 3–4 after recess — all giving their best effort and enjoying the opportunity to get active and have fun together.

With a little creativity and teamwork, staff set up simplified versions of traditional events:

  • 800m equivalent: Two laps around the oval (~300m each)
  • 100m equivalent: A sprint from goalpost to goalpost (~75m)
  • 200m equivalent: A run from goalpost to goalpost and back again (~160m)

These adjustments didn’t dampen the competitive spirit one bit — students ran with enthusiasm, encouraged their peers, and celebrated each other’s efforts.

A big thank you to everyone who made the day possible — especially the maintenance team for preparing the oval so quickly, mowing the grass and adding sand where needed after soggy weather left a few sticky patches!

We’re now looking ahead to the field events, which will be completed in the coming days. These results will help us finalise the team heading to the Primary Zone Athletics Carnival in Wollongong during Week 10.

We’re excited for a great day of competition at Zone with Ms Plumb and Mr Thorn leading our NCS team!

Debaters travel to Calderwood

Last Friday, a keen group of 16 secondary debaters from Years 7–10 swapped the classroom for the train carriage as they travelled to Calderwood Christian School for a full-day debating workshop — and what a day it was!

Accompanied by Mrs Weakley, the group took the train to Albion Park, then a short bus ride to the Calderwood campus, where they were warmly welcomed. The workshop was led by Jack and Eric, two passionate university students from Braidwood, who brought energy, experience, and plenty of practical tips to help sharpen our debating skills.

Throughout the day, students explored how to build strong arguments, effectively rebut opposing points, and structure persuasive speeches.

The learning wasn’t just theoretical — it was brought to life through two engaging activities "The Box of Doom" and having a "Balloon Debate".

There was also the unique experience of visiting another school environment. Our students enjoyed seeing both the differences and similarities between CCS and NCS, adding to the richness of the day.

The workshop ended with new friendships, fresh confidence, and plenty of excitement about what’s ahead. We’re already looking forward to catching up with Calderwood again in Term 3 for a friendly debating tournament.

Watch this space — our debaters are just getting started!

CSSA Zone Soccer Gala Day Success!

In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, our students shone at last Tuesday’s highly anticipated CSSA Zone Soccer Gala Day - always one of our favourite sporting events of the year!

The day brought together schools from across the South Coast CSSA Sports Zone for a series of exciting matches and fierce competition. Our players showed outstanding sportsmanship and dedication throughout the Gala Day.

Both our Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams finished the day undefeated and were crowned Zone Champions, earning a place at the upcoming State Football Finals in Sydney in early Term 3.

A huge thank you to Mr Norsworthy, Patrick and Jaxon S for running the BBQ on the day, and to our Maintenance Team for transporting us to the venue. We also appreciate the efforts of our staff coaches and Mr Clarke who was involved in convening the event.

Finally, a big thank you to all the families and friends who came along to support and cheer on our teams. Your encouragement made the day even more special!

Primary State Cross Country

Recently, 20 or so primary students gathered at the Sydney Equestrian Centre for the State Cross-Country event.

Attendees had qualified for the state event by placing in the top ten places at the zone event in the Shoalhaven.

Up to 200 students compete in each age group, making this a significant event, and heats can be intimidating due to the large numbers.

Top 100 results were achieved by Bailee N (61), Lily P (66), Bukata K (54), Jacob P (66), Harper B (60), and Bethany D (68).

A special mention goes to Tianna K. Running in the second heat of the 12/13 Girls, Tianna managed to outpace the field and finish fourth. This is a truly incredible result, qualifying her for the CIS Cross Country Championships.

There was an impressive team spirit on the day, with many students staying after their races to cheer on other teammates.

Well done, NCS!

Gold for Noah at NSWCIS Cross Country

Congratulations to Noah K (Year 9), who represented NCS and CSSA at the NSWCIS Secondary Cross Country Championships.

Noah has been dedicated to his training. He competed in the Multi-Class event and achieved an outstanding result - 1st place in his classification!

Noah has now qualified for the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships, which will take place during the July school holidays. Well done Noah!

'I like to move it, move it'

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who participated in the Madagascar Fundraiser!

Last Friday it was wonderful to see a rainbow of yellow, pink and orange Hi-Vis vests across the school. Students got to demonstrate their 'moves' at the assemblies and there was such a positive vibe to the day.

We raised over $2,400, which is amazing! We will be creating a What'sApp group for anyone who wants to follow our progress.

Please pray for:

  • Safety in travel
  • Good health and injury free
  • Unity and Teamwork
  • All building materials will be there
  • That we will get the job done
  • That we will be a blessing to the local believersThanks for partnering with us in this mission.

Recognising Excellence in Achievement

This year, we have moved to a new system for officially recognising student achievement. This involves presenting awards linked to the School's six character traits.

We have recently been awarding students who achieved a high number of merits under the previous system. Students in this group received a certificate if they had received anywhere from 50 to 90 merits. Under the old system, once a student reached 100, they received an end-of-year award in recognition of this milestone.

Students attended a morning tea with the Principal where they also were presented with their certificate.

Congratulations to all of the students on their excellent class work and attitude.
