Whole School Assembly this Friday
This Friday (6th June) we will attend the whole school assembly at the Buninyong Campus. As is our normal routine, we will bus back up to Scotsburn after recess and finish the day as normal at Scotsburn. We will meet everyone in the courtyard at 8:45am at Buninyong.
Student Free Day this Thursday
A reminder that this Thursday (5th June) is a student free day due to Report Writing Day. We will see everyone back on Friday, and then the long weekend for the King’s Birthday!
Reconciliation Week
Last week at Scotsburn we participated in some Reconciliation Week activities. We had some discussion as a campus about the meaning of reconciliation, as well as the importance of our indigenous culture and heritage. We learnt about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explored how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
With this year’s theme being “Bridging Now to Next”, students from SC1 and SC2 buddied up to create some “Now” and “Next” leaves that are on display in the courtyard at the Buninyong campus.
Homework
At the Scotsburn campus, we are continually reviewing our homework routines, in line with the whole school Buninyong homework policy. With our multi-class structure at Scotsburn, we acknowledge that providing homework at the right level for all students can at times be challenging. Homework is also never designed to cause stress or anxiety at home. As staff, we continually do our best to provide independent tasks that are engaging, fun and a review of concepts already learnt at school. We have recently received some feedback that homework has been a challenge at home to complete at times not always hitting the mark in terms of its intended purpose.
With this in mind, Scotsburn staff are currently looking at how we can modify and improve our homework practices to better cater for our students, and make it a more enjoyable, productive and achievable learning process. In the meantime, should homework be causing any stress or concern at home, please contact your teacher and we can work together to make appropriate arrangements for your individual child and family situation.
Kinect 2 Dance
This morning, we were lucky enough to receive a free 30 minute dance workshop with Kyle from Kinect 2 Dance. It was so much fun, and we look forward to hopefully starting up a partnership with Kyle in the future!
Happy Birthday Hugo
Thanks Sylvia, for the yummy birthday icecreams!!!
SC1 Learning Snapshot
In Writing in SC1, we have been busy learning how to develop and structure questions. We have used a range of different picture prompts to help guide the student’s questions, ensuring we include the 5 W’s (Who, What, When, Where and Why).
Over the next few weeks, we will be reading some stories about some Sea Animals. Last week we read about Sharks. We found out some fascinating facts about sharks and this week we are learning about Dolphins.
SC2 Learning Snapshot
This week in Writing, we are putting our finishing touches on our Narrative Poems. Students in SC2 have been learning about different aspects of figurative language to improve their poems, including personification, similes and metaphors. Their ability to “paint a picture” for the reader has been awesome!
Family Groups
Cooking - Here’s a few happy snaps of our cooking group last Friday. We made, baked and decorated creamy Vanilla Cupcakes. Yum!
Toastie Tuesdays!
Another reminder that Toastie Tuesdays will continue every Tuesday, for the hefty price of $1! Don’t forget to send a gold coin on Tuesdays for those that would like a Toastie.
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
