Our Year 5/6 students have been deeply engaged in rich and meaningful learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum this past fortnight

In Discovery, the students have been exploring the important global issue of water scarcity. They have investigated the causes and impacts of limited access to clean water in different parts of the world, developing both their understanding and empathy. For their end of term project, students are working collaboratively to design engaging, child-friendly presentations to share their learning with our Year 1/2 students. This has challenged them to think carefully about how to communicate complex ideas in simple, creative, and accessible ways. We are looking forward to seeing all of the students begin to practice their leadership skills as they educate and inspire our younger learners about the importance of saving water.

In Reading, students have been undertaking a deep analysis of the novel Blueback by Tim Winton. Through close reading and thoughtful discussion, they have explored themes such as environmental responsibility, connection to place, and the relationship between humans and nature. Students have been developing their ability to justify opinions using evidence from the text, as well as examining the author’s language choices and their impact on the reader. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they engage in rich literary conversations.

In Mathematics, the focus has been on units of measurement. Students have been learning to convert between units and apply their understanding to increasingly complex, multi-step worded problems. This has encouraged them to think critically, select appropriate strategies, and explain their reasoning clearly. Many students have shown persistence and resilience when tackling challenging problems, which has been fantastic to observe.

Overall, it has been a productive and engaging term, with students demonstrating curiosity, creativity, and a strong commitment to their learning. We are very proud of the efforts of the 5/6 cohort and look forward to sharing more of their achievements with you soon.
