Curriculum Updates

During Discovery, we have been learning about the roles and responsibilities of local council and thinking about all the ways they work to improve our parklands. We have tasked our students with creating a new park for their community, which they have designed and are now in the process of building. They are considering all the things a great park might need to service the area they live in.

On Thursday, the 3/4 students were lucky enough once again, to be part of the SEDA football clinic, which is organised by the Essendon Football Club and coordinated Strathmore Football Club Players.  Sadly, due to the weather some of our students had to take part in an indoor activity – such as designing jerseys, boots and trophies. We look forward to SEDA returning in week 9.

In Reading, we have been reading poetry and understanding the different styles that are used. We have read poems that rhyme, use personification, create vivid imagery and use specific structures, like the Haiku.

Through our Remarkable Writing program and other writing sessions, students have been learning to craft an adventure narrative. Our students are now ready to publish their work, after editing and reworking where they needed to, and will be able to talk to you about them when they bring their portfolio home.

Mathematics lessons have been a mixture of focused teaching and open-ended lessons focusing on addition and subtraction strategies and moving into decimals. The students have not only identified tenths and hundredth and writing these in decimal form, but through game based application, they were able to add decimals.

During Wellbeing, students completed the Student Resilience Survey, based on their wellbeing and resilience. It was an anonymous survey that will help us to learn more about how students are feeling and how we can support them better.

Congratulations to our Grade Three students who completed NAPLAN over the past two weeks. We are very proud of their resilience and hard work.

Finally, we wish all those celebrating, a happy Eid al Fitr!
